Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
When people talk about a dynamic duo, they say things like, “So and So are like peanut butter and jelly.” “As natural as salt and pepper.”
But what if your work “duo” is a trio or a quatro?! How do you create synergy to make a team, work and how do you make that work, great?
“Consider the two roles every person plays in a working group: a functional role, based on their formal position and technical skill, and a psychological role, based on the kind of person they are. Too often, organizations focus merely on the functional role and hope that good team performance somehow follows. This is why even the most expensive professional sports teams often fail to perform according to the individual talents of each player: There is no psychological synergy. A more effective approach focuses as much on people’s personalities as on their skills.” Harvard Business Review.
A great team comes from the right mix of personalities — not just individual skill.
From the six players on a volleyball court who have to communicate, listen to each other and strategize together, to the 11 players on the soccer field who have to give tirelessly of themselves, running up and down together, setting each other up for that perfect goal.
Without communication, the ball will hit the floor instead of staying in the air.
Without good Sportsmanship, your can’t bring your best to all situations.
Without support, your pyramid will fall.
In our family we say Teamwork makes the Dream work. this holds especially true in business.
Barbara Corcoran said it in the letter that 12 years ago got her a center seat on the Shark Tank stage, “I've found in building teams myself that the combination of personalities is always more important than the expertise or strengths of single individuals.”
The most successful teams get this mix of personalities right.
INGroup Creative places this tenet at its core. Our team knows Marketing, PR, Business Strategy and Social Media. We stay up on industry trends and study all the new applications and platforms, that keep our clients relative and relevant.
But...we also have a team that has great synergy. While our people are “functionally” standouts in our field, they are psychologically powerhouses in their own right. The level of creativity, cool-headedness, inquisitive mindsets, and authenticity our people has - rocking our mission on any given day (or night) - is what allows us to work as one team, though we often work alone. It allows us to work together, even when apart. Our people are what make us Team INGroup. After all, skills may be taught, but synergy must be captured!
