The Importance of Consistency
Have you ever found yourself referring to your company by various names? Yes, it can happen, especially if your company has had a recent name change.
For example, you may find yourself talking to customers from years past, who may not even know about the new company name, so you simply don’t bring it up because you don’t want to cause any confusion. This may seem easier when in conversation, but actually it is damaging to your overall brand.
This happens all too often to so many brands. In fact, it even happened to us.
We started out in 2014 as a Facebook group called “Eat IN Connecticut” which then grew to a robust Instagram following @eatinconnecticut. A year later we decided to take our years of professional marketing and PR experience to the next level, and formed a Marketing company which we also named “Eat IN Connecticut, LLC”.
To us, this made sense because that’s what we were most known for.
Fast forward to 2016 and we found ourselves in a situation where customers and the general public didn’t understand the difference between our social media side, and our new marketing company.
We now found ourselves with a social media following and a marketing company with the same name, which proved time and time again, to confuse people about what it was that we actually did.
So what did we do?
We changed the name of the marketing company to “INGroup Creative” to align with our social media brand of “Eat IN Connecticut.” This allowed us to pursue other business sectors in addition to food and drink.
The company name “INGroup Creative” helped us position ourselves in the marketplace as a boutique Marketing and PR company who specializes in hospitality, lifestyle and small business brands.
Like many companies who change the name of their business, you might find that your loyal customers from years past get confused, or maybe you find that new customers may refer to you by your former company name.
Yes it is difficult at times to keep reminding the public about who you are and what you do, but with a little repetition and consistency, your customers and the public will eventually catch on.
So if you realize that a name change is your next step, remember to develop messaging that clearly explains who you are, what you do, and why people should pay attention. And always remember to keep putting that new company name out there.
